Sheffield Fayre 2017

Sheffield Fayre 2017

The Sheffield Kite Fliers will once again be at the Sheffield Fayre this year. The Fayre will feature the legendary Horticultural Show, as well as an arena to showcase local dance and performing talents, sideshows, and fairground archives. There will also be street performers keeping the crowds entertained, a selection of excellent market stalls, fairground rides, food and drinks hubs, and charity & community contributions.

The Sheffield Fayre is on Bank Holiday Monday August 28th from 10:30am to 5:30pm in Norfolk Park. It is organised by Sheffield City Council in partnership with The Friends of Norfolk Heritage Park and supported by The University of Sheffield, National Fairground Archive.

After you've seen us at the fayre please feel free to come up to Lodge Moor on one of our Thursday night sessions, which run every Thursday evening within British Summer Time, or meet up with us at one of our weekend sessions. Information on joining the SKF, and about our free help and advice, can be found here.

SKF Weekend Sessions

Lodge Moor Weekends

The club receives a small contribution from the BKSA for each person who purchases their membership which helps with our running costs and, along with sponsorship from The Sportsman, means that we can offer these help and advice sessions for free.

The Sheffield Kite Fliers run help and advice sessions on selected weekend days at our home site, Lodge Moor in West Sheffield.

These sessions are tailored depending on who attends and cover everything kite related such as safety, packing and unpacking, static kite flying, coping with gusty winds, getting airborne, and using buggies and landboards.

All ages and abilities are welcome. They are free to attend but proof of insurance and a helmet are required if you wish to fly your own kite or one of our Ozone club kites. Here is how you can get involved:

1: Keep an eye on our Facebook page or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to register your interest. Either way please let us know that you plan to attend so we can ensure that we have available kites and people to help. Our sessions are weather and volunteer dependent so can be organised or cancelled at short notice.

2: Become a member of our sports governing body the British Kitesports Association (BKSA). It's less than £50 for a year's insurance with discounts available for children, students, and families. BKSA membership can be bought online the night before you come to see us and please choose the Sheffield Kite Fliers when you get a choice of clubs.

3: Arrive at our Sheffield flying site with proof of your BKSA insurance, a helmet, and clothes that you don't mind getting damaged or dirty. Friends and family are welcome to come, watch, and ask questions. If you plan on going in the onsite pub, "The Sportsman" (cash only), during or after the session then you are welcome to park in their car park. If not please park in the free council car park situated between the pub and the woods.

Or Thursday Nights: Within British summer time our Thursday night sessions run every week from 6:30pm onwards at The Sportsman. The same rules apply if you wish to fly a kite.

Chapeltown Kite Festival 2017

Chapeltown Kite Festival

For the ninth year in a row the SKF have been invited to fly for a couple of hours with the Friends of Chapeltown and members of the public. Tea, coffee, and bacon rolls will be available for a small charge.

The event runs from 10am until 1pm on the 11th March and I will meet attending SKF members in the park's car park from 9:30am onwards. The entrance to the car park looks like someone's drive. On the map below it's just above the "Thornbrook Gardens" bus stop on the right hand side of Station Road.
